Fact for History Nerds:

The largest jailbreak in history was in 1979 Iran when 11,000 prisoners made a run for it.

My Take on Jailbreak:

As someone who watches a ton of true crime documentaries, Jailbreak: Love on the Run surprised me in a good way. It tells the story of Vicky and Casey White (no relation although they did have relations). Vicky is in charge of a corrections facility in Alabama. Casey is an inmate and not a nice guy. Love blossomed somehow and Vicky breaks him out. The manhunt was big news when it happened. I won’t spoil what happens.

Instead of focusing on the manhunt exclusively as the main story, though, this doc keeps the spotlight on the Vicky and Casey and how they became close. Their relationship is the story. Vicky specifically gets enough attention so you can at least understand why she did what she did even if it is the dumbest thing you have ever heard of. Casey is not as well developed, but the documentary does ask a question. Did Casey actually love Vicky or was she a means to an end? People interviewed have strong feelings about it, but I wasn’t sure by the end of it (in a good way).

Also, there are a ton of true crime docs that are 3 or 4 episodes and at least 2 of them feel like filler. This is just 1 hour and 28 minutes and the right length for the story. You should give it a try.

Verdict:

True crime told a little differently. Watch it here!
