My Take on I’m Not a Monster:

The best true crime docs have real people and real emotions. Sure, some of those emotions are severe mental illness like The Tiger King, but still, you can’t look away. I’m Not a Monster finds narrative gold multiple times by finding and interviewing people close to the case who will leave you laughing your ass off or near tears. Whether it’s one of David’s (Lois’ first victim and husband) best friends or a bartender who knows crazy when he sees it, the doc presents real people in their element. It should be noted that Lois herself is interviewed from prison. Does it go hilariously bad for her? Yes. Is it still riveting? Yes.

From a technical perspective, the doc is broken up into two hour longish episodes. It’s very well paced and you don’t feel like there is a lot of fluff. It’s the right amount of runtime for the crimes and you never get that gnawing feeling that this could have been one episode. I recommend adding this to your watch list.

Verdict:

Very well done true crime doc. Watch it here!
