Anatomy of Lies

Anatomy of Lies (Peacock)

Brendan’s Alternate Tagline for Anatomy of Lies:

Trauma drama.

Quick synopsis:

The story of a Grey’s Anatomy TV show writer who faked cancer and a bunch of other stuff!

Fact for Non-History People:

There are about 1.5 million new cancer cases in the U.S. each year. Guess who wasn’t one of them?

Fact for History Nerds:

Someone who fakes being sick has what is called “factitious disorder.”

My Take on Anatomy of Lies:

Elisabeth Finch is a liar. You know that up front in the documentary Anatomy of Lies. This is not a “whodunit” or even a “how do they get caught?” scenario. This doc is all about how much will Finch lie, where do the lies come from, who is she willing to destroy along the way, and how does she use these lies for her own gain. And let me tell you something, she will use every single one for her own gain.

The doc is very well paced and put together. You need all three episodes to unravel the lie onion in Finch’s cold dead heart. As I mentioned, her psychology is so enraging and morbidly interesting that you aren’t antsy to get to the end because you’re riveted by the way this psychopath is willing to do anything to get what she wants. Cancer is not the only thing she makes up and some of them are even bigger doozies as she destroys lives left and right to stay in the spotlight.

No, you don’t need to know a thing about Grey’s Anatomy (I know nothing except that it exists). This is just an excellent true crime doc and I highly recommend it. I signed up for one month of Peacock to watch it and I am not disappointed.

Verdict:

Enraging and engaging. Watch it here!
