Review: Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience

Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience Focus:

Art exhibit for Vincent Van Gogh which highlights his work, tells his story, and adds some new technological spin.

Where is it:

A lot of different places. Head online to check it out https://vangoghexpo.com/.

What does it cost:

About $50 depending on the ticket level.

How long should I plan to stay: You can do and see everything within about 2 hours without rushing. It is not a huge exhibit but at multiple points you will be tempted to sit around for a bit and take in the sights and sounds.

Best Exhibits at Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience:

The experience is basically broken up into three separate areas (at least in the Washington, D.C. version). You first walk through a few hallways with Van Gogh’s biography and some of his work on the walls. There is a video or two which explain some of his ideas and how they came to be.

The second area is in a huge room with multiple projectors. You are basically immersed in the presentation as the projections cover the whole room including where you are sitting or walking around. It is cool for a bit, but it goes on for a long time on a loop.

The last part was my favorite. You sit down and put on virtual reality headsets which take you through a day in the life of Van Gogh. You walk around as if you are him while voice-over explains some of his ideas and how some of his most famous works came about.

Is it worth it:

It is a bit pricey but it is a great experience. The dude cut off his own ear. The least you can do is take a look at a few of his paintings. He suffered for your enjoyment! (Actually, mental illness but neither here nor there.)
